ASUU declares nationwide strike! (4th November)

ASUU Strike commences: ASUU resumes strike it suspended in September 2017. Both federal and state universities in Nigeria are expected to join the strike with immediate effect!

All students and staff of government owned universities in Nigeria are hereby informed that The Academic Staff Union of Nigerian Universities gas declared a nationwide strike, effective immediately.

Decision to embark on a nationwide strike was reached by the union after ASUU meeting help at FUTA on 3rd & 4th November, 2018.

Speaking about the industrial action, the National President of the ASUU, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi said:

“This strike will be total, comprehensive and indefinite. Our members shall withdraw their services until government fully implements all outstanding issues as contained in the MOA of 2017, and concludes the renegotiation of the 2009 agreements.

“We have today (Sunday) been subjected to 20 years of continued re-colonization under alleged democracy in which all the ruling class have been regrouping among themselves in their various factions they called political parties.”

It is unfortunate this is happening at a time fresh students who were offered admission are getting excited about starting their university education adventure.

We hope this gets resolved soon.
